Check out this Murphy RC from The Topps Vault on eBay!
It's a "4-Color Film Positive". I'm not really sure what that is - I've heard of Negatives, but not Positives. Its up to $450 and there's about a day left.
If I had the cash, I'd put it in my collection.

According to BusinessWire.com:
Former Major League Baseball Player Dale Murphy Introduces Monthly Contest to Win a $1,000 Scholarship Award Through ‘I Won’t Cheat!’ Foundation
MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dale Murphy, former Major League Baseball player for the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies, is offering a $1,000 scholarship check to the monthly winner of an essay contest through the I Won’t Cheat! Foundation.
I Won’t Cheat! is Murphy’s non-profit foundation that educates kids about the importance of not cheating in sports, school and life. “Our mission statement is ‘Injecting Ethics into America’s Future.’ We are having a lot of success helping kids make the commitment to do things the right way,” Murphy said.
“Dale has always cared a great deal about other people,” said Joe Torre, Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. “Dale’s is a voice you can trust.”
CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz added, “When Dale Murphy speaks, everyone in sports should listen.”
“I understand that the choice to cheat is always available whether you’re playing sports or working in business or taking a test in school,” said Murphy, who was the National League MVP in 1982 and 1983. “Our message takes an ethics-based approach to help kids make good decisions. We are getting kids to pledge that they won’t cheat in sports, school and life.
I Won’t Cheat assemblies are taking place in elementary schools, as well as Jr. high and high schools around the country. Dale is also working with youth organizations that want to wear a patch on their players’ uniform to symbolize a commitment to do things the right way.
Applicants for the essay contest can go to www.iwontcheat.com to enter. Each month will begin a new contest with an ever-growing scholarship prize.

Murphy to Debate Acceptance of Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Competitive Sports
|
Posted Monday 14 January 2008 - 23:37:07 |
According to IQ2 US's website, Dale Murphy is scheduled to debate the acceptance of performance-enhancing drugs in sports in New York on January 15, 2008.
Along with George Michael (the sports journalist) and Richard Pound, the Chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency, Dale will debate against the acceptance of PEDs in sports.
Debating for the motion are Radley Balko (interesting name, no?), Sr. Editor of Reason Magazine, Norman Fost M.D., M.P.H, Professor of Pediatrics & Bioetics at Univ. of Wisconsin, and Julian Savulescu, Uehiro Professor of Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford.
According to Balko's blog, NPR will be carrying an abridged version of the event later in the week, and if possible Balko will be posting audio/video. Balko is also reportedly a last-minute replacement for ex-Olympic gold medallist, Ben Johnson.
The event will be hosted by Bob Costas and is sold out at this time. You can vote for the side you agree with at the IQ2 US event page.

Good News, Bad News...
|
Posted Wednesday 09 January 2008 - 10:32:40 |
Tuesday brought some good news and some bad news for Murphy fans. The bad news was that Murphy was again overlooked by the majority of BBWAA voters and will not be inducted into the HOF. You can check out the HOF website for the official voting results.
Now, the good news is that Murphy had 50% more votes in 2008 than he did in 2007.
2008: 75 votes, 13.8% of ballots
2007: 50 votes, 9.2% of ballots
He still has a ways to go, as a player's name must appear on 75 percent of the ballots to be elected. However, Murphy will have another shot next year as players need five percent to carry over until next year.
